Three hospitals within the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System hospitals in
Houston were recently certified as reaching Stage 6 of the Healthcare
Information and Management Systems Society Analytics EMR Adoption Model, thanks
in part to their adoption of medical speech recognition.

The Memorial Hermann Healthcare System implemented medical speech recognition
for physician reports five years ago, according to a Heathcare IT News report.
The three hospitals that reached Stage 6 have used the technology to achieve
operational efficiency, clinical quality and patient safety, according to
hospital officials.

“Each component is an important step in improving medication safety. But it
is the final culmination of having all aspects in place that creates a highly
reliable process for patient safety,” Robert Murphy, chief medical informatics
officer, said.

Software and tools necessary to adopt medical speech recognition are
available at American Dictation Corp.

Healthcare organizations that achieve Stage 6 certification have almost fully
adopted automated or paperless records and have begun exploring ways to improve
their care delivery process, according to Healthcare IT News. In all, there are
eight stages in the EMR Adoption Model – 0-7.
